|
At the start of the 2007-8 academic year the three Departments of Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Probability and Statistics at the University of Sheffield federated to form a School of Mathematics and Statistics (SoMaS). Each individual department retains its identity as a research centre within the new structure. On May 21st 2008 SoMaS is hosting a one-day conference to celebrate this event. The opening talk will be given by the distinguished Fields medallist and Abel prize winner Sir Michael Atiyah.
